Currently working in watercolour, Jessie Woodgate is interested in the mix of history and modernity and explores this with images of derelict, once grandiose buildings now covered with graffiti and street art. She presents human figures in her work. She is looking to show a snapshot of urban life and to record a non-repeatable moment in time. She builds narrative into her work by adding her own own graffiti and street art designs and some of the subjects that interest Jessie are social history, colonialism and cultural diversity.
Jessie has developed a curiosity with the small details and highlights them and brings them forward in her work. Because of her focus on detail, her process takes a lot of time and paintings can take from 60 to 350 hours.
